Hello Everyone and Happy Monday! About Me:<\/b>\u00a0I am Dr. Russ Wilde (just call me\nRuss), your instructor for LRNT 521, and have been teaching at Royal Roads\nUniversity for the past few years in both the MALAT and MAHEAL programs.<\/p>\n\n Before joining RRU, I worked at several other Canadian\npost-secondary institutions in a variety of roles including educational\ntechnology, academic innovation, curriculum and faculty development, academic\nservices administration, and senior administration. I have experience in\npositions including oversight of online learning and educational technology,\ncurriculum development, program quality assurance, faculty development, library\nservices, academic support services, and applied research. After many years in leadership\nroles, I have returned to teaching and research activities related to\nleadership, technology innovation, and educational research methods. My current\nresearch interests are mainly focused on development of short-form reskilling\/upskilling\nprograms and the impact of emerging technologies (especially AI) on higher\neducation, labour markets, and society.<\/p>\n\n Away from work, I am an enthusiastic amateur musician and\ncomposer. I\u2019ve been playing guitar and bass for over 40 years\u2014or at least\nmaking a lot of noise. It depends on who you ask. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n Course Blog:<\/b>\u00a0Throughout the course I will be\nposting news as well as provocations for us to discuss framed around our\nreadings on our course blog. You may also choose to share a\nlink to your own blog site where you may have a post that speaks to an aspect\nof what we are discussing as well.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n Getting Oriented:<\/b><\/p>\n\n 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Your first stop as you get oriented to\nthe course should be the\u00a0Schedule<\/b><\/a>.\nAs mentioned in the Link Closing session, you will want to review the schedule\nand map the due dates and activities against your work and personal calendars\nand commitments, ensuring that you have created time to do the work prior to\nthe deadline. Past students have commented on the need to build in time for\ndoing the work as well as completing an edit and revision cycle on your writing\nprior to submitting.<\/p>\n\n 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In the\u00a0Course Overview<\/b><\/a>\u00a0video,\nDr. Elizabeth Childs explains how the course is set up and shows you what is in\neach area. The navigation and structure of the course sites are consistent\nthroughout the program so learning how to navigate the course site will be\nhelpful.<\/p>\n\n Week 1:<\/b>\u00a0Our course begins with Unit 1 which is\nthe annual\u00a0MALAT Virtual\nSymposium<\/b><\/a>. There are no readings for Unit 1 as you will be busy\nparticipating in live sessions as you are able, listening to recorded sessions,\nand contributing to discussions on the ARP and DLRCP padlets. You will see\nin\u00a0Unit\n1\u00a0<\/b><\/a>of our course that there are specific sessions you need to\nattend\/watch and the various the requirements you have with respect to\nparticipation in the virtual symposium (live or via the recordings). I know\nthis sounds silly to say but don't forget to scroll down the page to see all of\nthe information ;)\u00a0 I will join in some of the sessions this week and have\na few minutes to introduce myself and the course on Thursday\u2019s schedule.<\/p>\n\n So, have a great first week!
