Here is the flow for Assignment Two as outlined in the Schedule\nand assignment description.<\/p>\n\n 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A2\nDeliverable 1 \u2013 (pre-recorded video & document) DUE Sept 28th<\/sup> - uploaded into\nMoodle Assignment 2:\nRole-play debate (Pair) \u2013 (deliveryable 1: video & document) dropbox <\/a>\u00a0<\/p><\/div> 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Watch the\nvideos for the synch session you are attending (Oct 1 or Oct 2) and then review\nin depth the video your pair has been assigned (see the column in the Debate\nGoogle Doc<\/a>) between Sept 28 \u2013 Oct 1 - DUE by Oct 1st<\/sup>.<\/p><\/div> 3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Participate\nin the live \u201cFilmmakers Cut\u201d sessions Oct 1 and\/or Oct 2 depending on what one\nyou have signed up for and of course, know you can come to both.<\/p><\/div> 4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Submit A2\nDeliverable 2 (peer assessment) DUE Oct 4th<\/sup> \u2013 uploaded to the Moodle Assignment 2: Role-play\nDebate (Individual) (deliverable 2: peer assessment) dropbox.<\/a><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n I think I have heard from almost all of the teams about their\ndebate topic and have provided you with feedback. Thank you for sending them along\nand it is shaping up to be a field of engaging debates. <\/p>\n\n NOTE: Please\nensure your pair has signed up for a time for your live synchronous \u201cFilmmakers\nCut\u201d session either Oct 1 or 2nd<\/sup> in the Debate Google Doc<\/a> and more\nimportantly, don\u2019t forget to add that to your calendar ;)<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n In terms of Assignment 2 tips, as you are preparing your\nmaterials, I thought I would offer some recommendations of do's\/don\u2019ts:<\/p>\n\n 1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In\nproducing debate videos, avoid <\/b>creating a text-heavy PowerPoint,\nrecording the screen, and reading the text back to the reader. <\/p>\n\n a.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It's fine\nto use some words and graphics on a slide to draw attention to a point that you\nare making, but because humans can read much faster than can listen, it is\ndistracting to watch a video that includes narration of the same text. <\/p><\/div>\n\n There are more insights like this from cognitive psychology, and\nto assist you, below I am including Richard Mayer's principles of multimedia\nlearning for some guidance. Kirsten did her Assignment 1 on Richard so you can\nread more here<\/a> as well.<\/p>\n\n These principles are based on years of studies examining how\npeople learn with multimedia. They are condensed in simple recommendations\nbelow:<\/p>\n\n 2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Avoid\nlong lists of citations in your presentation\/debate and reading out loud those\nnames. Feel free to refer the reader to \"citations in the description of\nthe video\" or \"these researchers\" (while including their names\non a slide) and so on. <\/p>\n\n a.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Think of\nthis as a conversational and informative presentation so as to avoid saying\n\"Jane (2015), Jo (1993), and Johanes and Insuk (2014) said that...\"\nduring the presentation\/debate. Provide those resources\/references for others\nto explore, but avoid narrating long lists of names.<\/p><\/div>\n\n Last but not least, this week we have Activity 6<\/a> - our\nUnit 2 Book Club session tomorrow, \u00a0Sept\n22nd at 4:30 \u2013 6pm pacific time<\/b>. I appreciate that this is a timeslot that\nwill not work for everyone and will record the session for those who are not\nable to join in as always.
