This experiential activity provides an opportunity to practice facilitation strategies, observe how they impact learners, and reflect on your facilitation choices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Assignment Structure:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Facilitation Plan (5%):<\/strong>&nbsp;Draft due at the end of Week 3; Final due at the end of Week 4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. These topics are intentionally broad\u2014your role is&nbsp;<strong>not<\/strong>&nbsp;to be a subject matter expert but to&nbsp;<strong>design a meaningful introductory learning experience<\/strong>. You\u2019ll be assessed on your&nbsp;<strong>facilitation design and approach<\/strong>, not the depth of your content knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>How might emerging education technologies such as AI or bots change the role of a facilitator?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exploring the relationship between digital literacies and facilitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can Open Educational Practices (OEP), including open pedagogy and OER, change the facilitator\u2019s role?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The facilitator\u2019s role in creating inclusive learning environments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examining digital facilitation through an Indigenous knowledge lens: How can Indigenous epistemologies and worldviews shape online learning?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A critical inquiry of the Community of Inquiry model: At 25 years old, is it still relevant?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Another topic of your choosing (with instructor approval)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll select your topic and facilitation week in&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1jzAc89R5GMd5lGFE9eVNujiYSHqODYaL\/edit?usp=share_link&amp;ouid=110267062460463404385&amp;rtpof=true&amp;sd=true\">this shared Google Doc<\/a><\/strong>:&nbsp;Facilitation Week Sign-Up Sheet<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Scheduling Your Synchronous Session<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of your planning, your team will&nbsp;<strong>poll the rest of the class to identify a time that works for the majority of participants<\/strong>. Use this input to set your synchronous session time and communicate it clearly to the class. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Opening Your Synchronous Session<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You are encouraged to begin your synchronous session facilitation with a short welcome to help your peers feel present and grounded. This could include a greeting, a shared intention, a moment of reflection, or an invitation to consider place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our first synchronous session, I\u2019ll share a territory acknowledgment and explain how this connects to my own facilitation values. You are not required to include a territory acknowledgment, but you are welcome to do so if it feels meaningful.
