Hi everyone,
Happy
Monday! I hope you enjoyed a nice weekend. Just a few things as we move into
the second week of exploring change. This is a bit of a long one .
- It has been great to see the different perspective emerging from the first activity. I see there are more to come, and it is great to see the comments and discussion emerging. So far I see a themes of needing to balance safety/privacy and taking a critical approach to technology implementation.
- Activity 2 is designed to help you with your first assignment, and hopefully you have a start on connecting with colleagues. If you haven’t had a chance already, I would encourage you to listen to the perspectives on leadership and change in the “Voices” webpage (there are also transcripts). All four interviews have a question on change and will be very relevant as you think about practical approaches to initiating change in your own contexts.
- We had our synchronous session for this unit last week. Our next one will be next Tuesday, February 18 at 5 pm.
- Just a reminder that as you are interviewing or corresponding with professional colleagues outside the course for Activity 2/Assignment 1 that you need to fill out the consent form as part of the research ethics guidelines for the course. You do not have to provide the form to me as part of your assignment but should keep a copy.
- The assignment instructions ask you to post it to your blog, but there is a space in Moodle for you to share your Assignment if there are elements that you do not want to share publicly, or if the colleague you speak to is more comfortable with you not sharing an analysis openly on your blogs. It is a good reminder that your blogs, though not searchable, can be viewed, so you may want to keep that in mind for all your posts where you might be adding a critique. Just a reminder to also submit it to the dropbox in Moodle so I can assess it there. If you would like direct feedback, then a word document is the best (I can't annotate a weblink).
- As you start work on your post for Assignment 1 - make sure you take a look at the rubric for the criteria. Assessment criteria that are particularly relevant:
"Identifies change theories related to leadership and provides links to their relevance in leading change in digital learning environments." Here the emphasis is on linkages - taking your own perspectives, those from your consultations and then framing them within a larger discourse (such as within theories or models) around how it is relevant for leading change in digital learning environments. Ideas should be synthesized.
"Evidence of thoughtful consultation and insights from at least two professional colleagues. Discussion demonstrates insight into challenges and solutions in initiating change. Multiple perspectives are evident" Note that you can use one of the Voices interviews as a second perspective if you only talk to one other colleague.
- If you do choose to use a GenAI tool to help with your assignment in any way (create an outline, help generate images, et cetera), make sure you add an attribution for this. There is a section in this discussion paper by Aras Bozkurt ( that is really useful “How to Report the use of GenAI”
- APA – reminder that the references in the course do not follow APA – they are web accessible, so you may have to slightly tweak them. All references should have an url or DOI at the end (rather than the hyperlinked title) – the second version below is APA 7. They also don't have the hanging indent.
