Welcome to LRNT524 – Innovation, Design and Learning Environments
In this course, you will explore instructional design as an evidence-informed, contextual, and evolving practice for creating meaningful digital learning experiences. You will critically examine instructional design models and approaches, consider how learner needs, experiences, context, accessibility, and emerging technologies influence design decisions, and investigate contemporary challenges facing instructional designers.
Through individual and collaborative inquiry, you will synthesize research, explore the opportunities and implications of generative AI for instructional design practice, and apply your learning to authentic design challenges across diverse contexts.
Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to question assumptions, exercise professional judgement, and reflect on your evolving perspectives, culminating in the development of your own evidence-informed principles for instructional design practice.
You’ll have two types of synchronous Zoom sessions offered throughout the course, each designed to support your learning in a slightly different way:
- Coffee & Questions: Informal, instructor-led Zoom sessions that provide opportunities to ask questions, clarify course expectations, and receive guidance on upcoming activities and assignments.
- Community Reflections: Student-centred Zoom sessions for sharing perspectives and reflecting together on course topics; students who cannot attend may instead respond to the reflection topic on their blog to earn the associated 3% learner contribution mark.
