Welcome to Week 5

by Russ Wilde.

Hello all and welcome to Week #5 of our course!

I hope you are having a good start to the week and are looking forward to our exciting week ahead! It has been great to see the activity going on over the past week with Visual Networking Maps in the blogs. Please continue to read and comment on blogs throughout the coming week, especially if you have not had a chance to comment on peer blogs yet. Reading the idea of others engaged in the same readings is great way to sort and consolidate our own learning and a key part of learning through online networks.

As you will all no doubt be meeting with your teams to prepare for Assignment 2 – the debate, I thought I would send along a few tips and resources from previous students in case they are helpful in your plotting and planning.

As outlined in our course Schedule, the debate starts with the initial arguments being posted May 11 and runs through till May 18. The threads for the initial arguments have been created in the Moodle discussion forum, and I will send out a note to remind everyone of the official debate kick-off next Monday morning.

In terms of your tasks leading up to the debate, they are to:

1. Complete the Unit 3 readings so you are prepared to for the debate

2. Meet with your team (likely more than once) to prepare for the debate according to the group you are assigned. Make use of your team agreements and the work you have already completed with our team coach as you complete the various stages of the debate, including the peer evaluation. There are also some great resources here from our team coaches that you might find useful as you get moving in your teams at https://teamwork.royalroads.ca/. Also, you may wish to view this feedback video from MindTools, which discusses key tips on how to give feedback to your team members.

3. Don't forget to review the debate assignment description here so you are clear on what is being asked of you and how you will be assessed. Be sure to scroll down to the end of the page.

5. Have fun! The debate is a wonderful opportunity for concentrated, thought-provoking ideas and learning from everyone's input.

Just a reminder, if you have any questions that you feel the class may benefit from reading/seeing the response please don't hesitate to put them in the Ask the Instructor Forum.

Have a great week, and as always, feel free to connect with me should any questions arise—I am always happy to chat via email or Zoom. Especially let me know of any challenges in connecting as teams that might interfere with your work on the debate.

Best,

Russ
